Bhubaneswar-based tribal school, Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), emerged champions in the 9th PVR Murty Memorial Inter-School Cricket Tournament, trouncing DAV Publica School (CDA) by 83 runs in the final at the Bhubanananda Engineering School ground here today.
Biswajit Bhuyan starred in the KISS win, hitting 45-ball 48 with the help of four boundaries and one six. He was adjudged the man of the match.
KISS boys bagged three more individual awards with Ramachandra Murmu, Bikram Sahoo and Digambar Pujari emerging as the best batsman, best bowler and best fielder respectively.
However, the biggest individual prize went to DAV Public School batsman Abhinash Sahoo, who took home a motorcycle as the player of the tournament.
Former India Test opener Chetan Chouhan handed over the trophy and prizes at the closing function. Former Mass Education Minister Pratap Jena, Odisha Cricket Association secretary Asirbad Behera, host Union Sporting Club president Nand Kishore Tibarewal and secretary Pradeep Chouhan were present on the occasion.
Altogether 16 schools, including two from outside Cuttack are participating in the tournament, which was earlier inaugurated by JKBK College principal Dr Kailash Chandra Rout.
